OVERVIEW
Our Behavioural Health Unit offers a range of outpatient-based therapy services of the highest standard individually tailored to meet the needs of each client. Our team of health professionals has the expertise to treat most behavioural and mental health conditions, offering evidence-based treatment that delivers the highest levels of clinical care. Our treatment programmes are aimed at healing, supporting and empowering the clients to enable them to gain control of their life and guide them on their path to lasting wellbeing.
OUR APPROACH We treat our clients in absolute confidentiality while offering a friendly and unhurried approach to treatment. Our focus is on listening to our clients and making sure that our treatment strategy is fully agreed upon and accepted by our client. We have the benefit of working alongside other medical specialities which allows a rapid referral to other specialities as well as a multidisciplinary input in treatment whenever required.

Addiction Treatment Programme
With appropriate treatment, people can recover from alcohol, benzodiazepines, cigarette-smoking, illicit drugs and gambling addictions. We offer individually-tailored detoxification and rehabilitation treatment programmes that ease clients back into taking control of their lives and dramatically improve the quality of their lives.
Stress & Anxiety Management
A range of psychological interventions is offered to people suffering from stress and anxiety. It includes breathing exercises, progressive muscular relaxation, visualization and imagery techniques, and deep relaxation sessions. Group Stress Management is also offered to organizations.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder & Phobias
Graded exposure and response prevention strategies combined with appropriate pharmacological treatment are used to treat obsessive-compulsive states. Systematic desensitization techniques are used in the treatment of agoraphobia and other specific phobias
Dementia & Diseases of Older Adults
Our staff is specially trained to spot the early signs of Dementia including Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementias. We offer treatment with anti-dementia medication to improve the quality of life of these patients. Reminiscence therapy and revalidation strategies are offered as part of our psychological package of care in the management of dementias.
Depression
We offer specialized treatment for different types of depression including bipolar mood disorder and post–natal depression. A thorough medical and psychological assessment is carried out by our specialist team, followed by appropriate management of the mood abnormality.
Schizophrenia
We strive to improve the quality of life of patients with schizophrenia and offer them a better control of their symptoms. We rehabilitate the patients to have a better integration of their personal, social and occupational lives. We also provide education on the nature of their condition as well as social and emotional support to their relatives and carers.
Home Visits
Our dedicated team of health professionals happily offers home assessments and treatments for patients who are house-bound due to mental health conditions. In those cases, domiciliary assessments provide the first step to a package of care which is targeted at rehabilitating the patient and enabling him or her to carry out activities of daily living to the best of his or her ability.
Child & Adolescent Services
We carry out assessments of children suffering from a wide range of disorders including dyslexia, school refusal, truancy, autism, Asperger’s syndrome, attention deficit hyperkinetic disorder (ADHD) and other disorders of childhood and adolescence. We also offer home or school visits if necessary and support to the parents.
Psychotherapy & Psychoanalysis
Psychotherapy & psychoanalysis are specialized psychological interventions targeted at exploring and ventilating psychological conflicts that adversely affect the personal, social and occupational life of a person. These interventions also help to improve self image and self confidence.
Eating Disorders
The eating disorder programme is individually tailored to suit the needs of clients suffering from anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa or compulsive eating. We counsel the client in re-establishing an appropriate relationship with food with therapeutic input from our multidisciplinary team consisting of physician, psychiatrist, psychologist and dietician amongst others.
Psychometric Tests
We carry out psychometric tests which include tests of intelligence (IQ tests), personality, memory, and cognitive functioning using validated questionnaires and a battery of tests. A full qualitative and quantitative report is given to the client.
Second Opinion and Psychiatric Reports
Our department offers second opinion on mental health conditions and advice on their managements. We also prepare medical/court reports for mentally ill offenders.
Patients Refusing Treatment
Our team offers a service of educating, engaging and motivating patients who are reluctant or unwilling to have treatment due to lack of insight into their condition.
OUR TEAM
Dr Anil Jhugroo, our Consultant Psychiatrist did his undergraduate medical training in Dublin, Ireland and his postgraduate psychiatric training in London, England. He has worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist in a number of hospitals in UK and has a broad experience in different fields of Psychiatry. He has also worked as a visiting lecturer in Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences in London.
Miss Aisha Seedat, Counselling Psychologist, did her training in Psychology in Brussels, Belgium. She offers a wide range of psychological therapies and specialised counselling services. She has special interests in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and psychometric assessments.
